Let your stay generate amps
and the amps stay in your batteries
On modern sailing yachts, the demand for sufficient energy is constantly increasing, be it for navigation, entertainment electronics or simply for daily comforts such as refrigerator, air conditioning, etc. Photovoltaic can cover a lot, but what happens in high latitudes or when the sky is overcast? Here, additional support is needed from a wind generator that provides constant power while running vibration-free and absolutely quietly. Constant power from wind without disturbing neighbors in the harbor or in the idyllic bay!
ampStay is a vertical axis wind turbine utilizing the slanted backstay as rotation axis to generate electrical power. While providing up to 10m of usable height with a rotor diameter of about 40 cm, ampStay opens up previously unused space for power generation, especially in the upper rigg area.
ampStay consists of individual segments, so it can be adapted to the respective stay length. Directly below the rotor the generator is mounted, which supplies power from approx. 8 kt and also brakes the rotation at high wind speeds.
Especially in the upper mast area ampStay opens up previously unused space for power generation. Due to its design, the rotor is fed from any direction without having to be tracked. An integrated charge controller guarantees a constant and reliable power supply for charging the batteries. Depending on the installed rotor height, wind strength and the type of generator used, approx. 500 watts of power or more are achieved.
ampStay Development testing and performance determination are carried out with scientific support of:
